Our Timeline
SCHRA IS FOUNDED
The Southern Colorado Harm Reduction Association (SCHRA) was founded in 2017. It was created in response to the opioid crisis that had devastated Pueblo, Colorado, with a significant increase in overdose deaths in 2016. Medical professionals, recognizing the need for a different approach to tackling addiction, were inspired by harm reduction strategies implemented successfully in other countries. SCHRA focuses on providing comprehensive, compassionate services to meet the basic needs of individuals affected by substance use, viewing it as a healthcare issue rather than a criminal one. Their work includes medical assistance, food, clothing, and support to help individuals on their path to recovery.
